One day Sophie Ritchie was going to wake up and remember that no, her body was not a rubber band, and in fact she had fallen and hit her head, or had been taken with a horrible fever, or something rational. Sure, both people and animals existed in her world whose bodies also behaved like rubber bands, but that would never happen to her, right? Today was only about a dozen wake-ups since it all started, and while the memories of all those days felt real, as Sophie stirred from slumber, normally her first clear thought would be to check herself and see if she still stretched. That would have been true today, if she had not felt something weird in her forearms that took the place of her question about dreams. Sure, her body also stretched like a rubber band, but that was relatively old news, and less unusual. She had become a Bendy, one of many people in the world with mutations that give them unusually flexible bodies - they were about one in a million, but by those odds, Sophie was one of about 30 or 40 Bendies in Canada, so she was not alone by any means. Sophie was pretty sure she was the only one in the world with a tail, however. It was a long story how it came to be, involving a maniac physics professor and a tranquilizer gun loaded with mutagen. Sophie had tried to be a local hero of sorts, and had prevailed, but paid with the corruption of her anatomy. Thankfully, everything about her new appendage seemed to work properly!
